A good body oil is a must, especially for these last few weeks for summer. The slight sheen emphasizes a tan (natural or faux) and makes everyone’s skin look toned and taut. But when you throw in a delectable scent, you get a multitasking product that will have you stashing your body lotion and perfume until the temperatures start dropping.
Our new favorite is Votre Vu’s On Holiday Moisturizing Body Spray, for all the reasons we mentioned above. With its hydrating blend of grapeseed, apricot kernel, sweet almond, wheat germ and jojoba oils—and intoxicating, oh-so-beachy, close-to-the-original-Coppertone aroma—skin is left super-soft, silky, subtly scented and never greasy. Just writing about it makes us want to change into a slinky tank and cut-offs, and go for a seaside stroll.

Treat yourself to a holiday each morning
You can slather on countless lotions and potions, but if you don’t have healthy, nutritious food on the inside, you’re going to see it on the outside. Too much refined sugar has been linked to wrinkle-causing collagen breakdown, and a poor diet can lead to dull, dry skin. But we’re not telling you to go to extremes, because girls, we need to eat! If you don’t believe us, maybe you’ll believe New York City dermatologist David Bank, MD, who is also president of the New York State Society for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.
1.Avocado: The fat in avocados is the best you can get, and they’re also rich in the essential oils, B vitamins and niacin that have anti-inflammatory effects and soothe red, blotchy skin.
2.Mango: Give yourself a sweet treat and get 80% of your daily vitamin A requirement. Retinol is derived from vitamin A, and getting this nutrient internally helps your skin cells repair themselves, and protects the skin from aging free radical damage.
3.Almonds: With 150% of the vitamin E you need each day, almonds can moisturize your skin and shield skin from free-radical-induced premature aging.
4.Cottage cheese: The selenium found in cottage cheese works synergistically with vitamin E to protect against free radicals, skin cancer and dandruff. (Who knew?)
5.Acerola cherries: This variety of cherry delivers 100% of your daily vitamin C to fight sun damage, wrinkles and help your skin produce more collagen.
6.Oysters: We’ve all heard about the aphrodisiac effect of oysters, but they’re also rich in zinc which can help ward off breakouts and boost your skin’s elastin levels.
7.Baked potatoes: See, carbs can be good for you! One jacket potato (as our British friends like to call it) provides 75% of the copper you need each day. When copper links up with zinc and vitamin C, your skin produces elastin, and without enough copper skin gets dull and lifeless.
8.Mushrooms: ‘Shrooms are packed with riboflavin that’s necessary for skin maintenance and repair. Research also shows riboflavin can reduce blemishes caused by rosacea.
9.Flaxseed oil: Trade your omega-3 supplement for this vegan alternative and you can see improved hydration, less oil and fewer clogged pores.
10.Wheat germ: This is a good source of biotin, which is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails.

With so many self-tan options, Fake Bake has something for everyone
Our obsession with self-tanning knows no season, especially since we live in South Florida where a golden glow is a year-round accessory. Fortunately our job enables our addiction, as there’s a steady flow of new products coming into our office every week. But new doesn’t always mean better, which is why we decided to revisit a line we fell for quite a few years ago, and we sure are happy that Fake Bake is part of our lives once again.
To reacquaint ourselves with Fake Bake’s products, we tested a variety of tanners for face and body. From gradual self-tanners to intense deep tanning creams, here’s the lowdown on the ones we tried.
Sunless & Skinny: Less cellulite and a natural-looking tan? Sign us up. After just a few days, our thighs looked smoother and our skin had a lovely golden hue. Yes, any faux tan helps improve the appearance of cellulite, but we’d like to think the copper and seaweed extract had something to do with it.
Platinum Face: Apple stem cells are where it’s at for skin rejuvenation these days (check out our recent story if you happened to miss it), and this facial lotion gives your skin a treat as it tans. We love the tinted formula that gives us instant color.
Bronze on the Glow: When time is of the essence and you just don’t have time for color to develop, this aerosol mist comes to the rescue. An instant bronzer that washes off easily, it also contains cucumber extract to hydrate the skin and antioxidant green tea to help ward off free radical damage.
Tantalizing Self-Tanning Butter: Perfect for dry legs, this super-hydrating cream is rich in skin-soothing shea butter and offers a light tan at the same time. Its sheer bronze color helps you avoid streaks and keeps legs (and anywhere else you use it) smooth and soft all day long.
Keep your summer tan going strong
