Trend to try: Orange lips

After popping up on the runway for the past few seasons, get ready to see a lot more orange lips this spring. This color trend has been gaining momentum, and I’m betting this summer you’ll see headlines like “Orange Crush” and “Tangerine Dream” more times than you can count. So when I had a little time to kill last week, I popped into Walgreens to do some scouting, and I came home with 2 options that I’ve been wearing since—and it’s not even spring yet.

I’m a fan of bold color, and I’ll admit that orange is a bit outside my red-or-hot-pink comfort zone. To lean into the trend, I tried Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in “Tutti Fruity.” This tinted balm packs a little more color-punch than others I’ve tried, so you get the effect without going over the top. The hydrating formula also has a hint of shine, making this super-wearable for day. If you’re one of those girls who isn’t 100% comfortable rocking a bold, look-at-me lip, this is the way to go.

Since I also wanted to go “all the way,” I bought Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in “Audacious,” and that it is. Definitely more hydrating than my beloved NARS pencils, one swipe served up an opaque orange that is not for the faint of heart—and I know I’ll be wearing it a lot come spring (and even before then). After a few wears I realized that it’s essential to exfoliate my lips to get the color to go on smooth, but that’s a small price to pay for an on-trend pout without dropping serious money on a lippie I may only wear for a few months.

Being that this trend is a little out of the box, naturally I wanted to get some feedback on it. Luckily my husband had a few friends over to watch football on Saturday night, so I was able to get the men’s opinion… They said go for it, and even though I didn’t need their approval before stepping out in orange lips, it’s good to know that this trend won’t garner the wrong kind of attention.
