Reap the benefits of light therapy at home

In-office laser- and light-based treatments are a guaranteed way to improve a variety of skin issues. From redness and excess hair to discoloration and, of course, fine lines and wrinkles, specific wavelengths of light have the power to make our skin look flawless—but these treatments often come along with a hefty price tag. Some at-home light-based devices can set you back at least $300, but if you’re looking for a wallet-friendly option, you’ll want to check out the illuMask Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask.

Always one to try something new in an effort to look younger, I was pretty excited to try this mask. It harnesses the power of red and infrared light to promote younger-looking skin by targeting discoloration, laxity, fine lines and wrinkles—without any side effects. My son was pretty excited to try it, too…

Using it is as easy as putting it on (it’s like wearing glasses), pressing the start button on the attached remote and sitting still for 15 minutes. It automatically shuts off when the treatment is finished and you’re on your way. The mask is good for 30 treatments, and once you use them all up you toss the whole thing in the trash. Frankly, the hardest thing about using this mask, for me at least, was finding the 15 minutes each day.

illuMask boasts some pretty impressive clinical results, namely that 96% of users have more even skin tone and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after four weeks. I stuck with using the mask for about three weeks, and although I didn’t see improvement nearly as impressive as the before-and-afters on the box, my “before” was much better to start with.

My opinion: At $30, you have little to lose by adding this mask to your anti-aging regimen. It’s completely safe for your skin (and eyes), and even if you don’t see dramatic improvement, at the very least it gives you 15 minutes to sit back and relax each day.

P.S. If you’re prone to breakouts, try the illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask. Featuring blue and red LED light to reduce bacteria and inflammation, regular use can keep blemishes, redness and excess oil at bay.
